Bill requiring California public universities to provide ‘abortion pill’ passes in state Assembly

SB 24, or the “College Student Right to Access Act,” was passed by the California State Assembly Health Committee Tuesday, and will guarantee that all California public university students have access to medication abortion through university health centers by January 2023, according to the bill.

Fair Pay to Play Act could allow California collegiate athletes to earn money from sponsorships

The Fair Pay to Play Act was approved by the state Senate with a 31-4 vote. The bill was designed to protect California collegiate athletes, who have produced tens of billions of dollars for their colleges, corporate sponsors and television networks, according to a press release.

‘Strong investment’: May revision to governor’s budget provides funds to UC system

Under the May revision to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s state budget, the UC system is being provided with an ongoing $240 million from the state’s general fund as well as a $153 million one-time general fund investment — with the expectation that UC Board of Regents will not increase tuition for the 2019-20 academic year.
