According to the most recent Division I National Coaches’ Poll, the men’s West Region ranking dropped three positions from their previous standing, from ninth to 12th. One month ago, the women’s side was ranked No. 21 in the nation, but they have now completely dropped from the rankings.

In Friday’s Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational, both the Cal men’s and women’s teams were once again distinctively young; six of the fourteen Bears who competed were freshmen.

Brendel and Corcoran led the men’s pack for most of the season, but lack of depth and standout talent was the team’s Achilles’ heel. The women also had a roster that ran shallow, but Knights and Oakley carried the team. The freshman-senior duo’s flat-out dominant performances in every meet of the season were enough to boost the the women to the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Kentucky.
