While players have a lot to gain this week, coaches are not very interested in the results this early in the season. With having more freshmen than any other class on the team, the Bears are looking to develop more than anything, and the doubles games are a great opportunity for them as they match up freshmen with upperclassmen in these preseason tournaments.

The unusually large seven-player class is quite necessary after Cal lost three integral players to graduation last year. Although the Bears will be without former All-Americans Florian Lakat, Filip Bergevi and Andre Goransson, the Bears still bring back some solid senior leadership to pave the way for 2017-18.
