Activists march through campus as part of Bay Area COP26 March

Community members came together Nov. 6 as part of the Bay Area's COP29 march, which aims to advocate for environmental justice worldwide.

According to Nik Evasco, Youth Climate Organizer and Program Manager for 350 Bay Area, a climate activism organization, their youth mobilization team led the organization of the march along with other environmental justice, youth-focused and UC Berkeley organizations.

City council aims for fossil fuel-free Berkeley by 2030

The two items were introduced separately, but voted on together — one that declared a climate emergency and called for a town hall to engage the community in discussion, and one that delineated goals for working towards a future where Berkeley does not rely on fossil fuels.
