‘Meaningful and sustainable instruction’: Bay Area educators call for additional safety measures, resources

The Berkeley Federation of Teachers is asking for schools not to reopen for in-person instruction until additional safety measures are implemented and the shelter-in-place order is lifted, among other things.

On Monday, 39 teachers unions in Alameda and Contra Costa counties released a declaration calling for strong safety measures and increased educational resources as schools reopen in the fall.

Alameda County school community rallies legislators for more funding

About 350 teachers, students, superintendents, union leaders, workers, parents and school board presidents from Alameda County rallied and spoke with legislators in Sacramento on Wednesday, calling for more public education funding in California, according to the Alameda County Office of Education’s director of communications and public affairs Michelle Smith McDonald.
