Berkeley mail carrier faces misdemeanor charges for allegedly entering resident’s house

Mail carrier LaMonte Earnest faces a misdemeanor charge after a Jan. 26 incident in which he allegedly unlawfully entered and remained in a residence on Sacramento Street, as first reported by Berkeleyside.

Gov. Jerry Brown signs 1, vetoes another bill on sexual assault evidence kits

Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill Sunday that mandates a statewide audit of all untested sexual assault evidence kits, commonly referred to as “rape kits.” Yet on the same day, he vetoed another bill that passed unanimously through the state Senate and Assembly, and would have mandated that rape kits be processed within 120 days.

UC Berkeley students charged with vandalism arraigned in court Monday afternoon

Ismael Chamu and Peter Estrada, two UC Berkeley students arrested last week on charges of vandalism, were arraigned at the Wiley M. Manuel Courthouse Monday afternoon on charges of alleged felony vandalism more than $400 and misdemeanor possession of tools to commit vandalism.
