“Gilmore Girls” has its strengths, such as its compelling, nuanced female characters, plots largely driven by female ambition and willingness to challenge traditional family structures. With that being said, the series depends on several patriarchal tropes.

For a show set in a sociopolitically turbulent time in the United States, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” does a great job at skimming the turbulence without ever diving in.
