Graduate student workers from 16 UC Berkeley departments officially began their wildcat strike Monday, pledging to withhold grades and fully cease all work duties in support of a cost-of-living adjustment, or COLA, from UC administration.

Nearly 1,100 protesters showed up at the peak of the campus protest to support a cost of living adjustment, or COLA, for UC graduate students March 5. About 100 protesters gathered on Sproul Plaza at about 10:30 a.m. to march around campus.

Graduate student worker union, UC file unfair labor practice charges against each other

United Auto Workers, or UAW, Local 2865 — the union that represents UC graduate student instructors, teaching assistants, readers and tutors — filed unfair labor practice charges against the UC system Feb. 27 and March 2, after weeks of system-wide protests in support of a cost of living adjustment.

UC Berkeley graduate students in the department of African American studies released a letter to Chancellor Carol Christ, claiming they are ready to strike if the administration fails to meet the demands of campus organizers in support of a cost of living adjustment by March 6.

Fifty protesters gathered on Sproul Plaza at noon Feb. 28 and delivered demands to campus administration in Sproul Hall in support of a cost of living adjustment, or COLA, and reopened bargaining with UC administration.

Regents Policy 5402 aims to prohibit outsourcing, increase insourcing

After UC system employee complaints on outsourcing, Regents Policy 5402 went into effect Feb. 15, giving the UC system a one-year timeline to terminate unnecessary contracts with external suppliers.
