Out of the variety of businesses that the pandemic affected, concert venues were among the hardest hit — Berkeley music hall Ashkenaz was no exception.

“Comedy at Ashkenaz!” isn’t a Kevin Hart comedy stadium tour, but it still delivers its jokes and entertains its audience.

Lisa Geduldig, Dom Gelin, Nick Leonard, Irene Tu and Karen Ripley brought a predictably mixed bag of punchlines, with some landing in spite of themselves.

And if you’re worried about this weekend’s heat wave bleeding into next week, worry not — most of these events are indoors.

With humor that was occasionally uncomfortable, but mostly good-natured and lighthearted, the comedians, brought together by producer Lisa Geduldig, held space for the audience and for one another, fostering an atmosphere of warm support that accommodated diverse sexualities as well as multiple styles of comedy.

This week, the Bay Area is gearing up for the joyous occasion of Pride, and the numerous fun, often-free activities that accompany it.
