Next year’s executive offices will be filled by independent candidate Victoria Vera as president, current ASUC Senator Melvin Tangonan as executive vice president, current ASUC Senator Nicole Anyanwu as academic affairs vice president, current ASUC Senator Derek Imai as external affairs vice president and independent candidate Joyce Huchin as student advocate.

Independent candidates will dominate the ASUC Senate in the next academic year, as announced during the tabulation ceremony Friday. 38 candidates ran for ASUC Senate, including 10 candidates from Student Action, which won a majority of seats last year. Four candidates ran for transfer student representative, a new office in the ASUC.

His goals — engage students and promote a wider variety of students’ needs — definitely follow in the footsteps of past EAVPs.

Throughout the ASUC election season, candidates have run their campaigns with personal contributions, donations or without any funding.

The 2020 ASUC elections ballot will include a transfer student representative position for the first time. The position was established through the Transfer Remedy Act, which was included in the ASUC 2019 elections ballot.

Campus junior Augusto Gonzalez aims to promote sustainability, cheaper transportation and financial wellness, among others, at UC Berkeley as a candidate for ASUC external affairs vice president, or EAVP, ASUC Senate and transfer representative.

For the upcoming ASUC election cycle, four official parties are running candidates: Defend Affirmative Action Party/Fighting for Immigrant Rights and Equality, or DAAP/FIRE, Student Action, People’s Party and REBUILD.
