Over the past 150 years, UC Berkeley has made efforts to support women through its curriculum and school resources, but many still feel there is work to be done.

We need people who we can relate to on a personal level and share our experiences and feelings with; we need to feel understood by someone else.

When you walk into UC Berkeley’s Poetry for the People, or P4P, class (African American Studies 156AC) you are walking into a revolutionary landscape that has cultivated and nurtured young student poets since its 1991 conception.

The festival will celebrate its fifth year on May 4 and 5 in Downtown Berkeley, its home since the beginning.

Looking for a little guidance myself, I sat down with four professors to talk about the wonders and horrors of their 20s — and the setbacks they encountered on their own paths to becoming the academics they are today.
