A Concord man, Alfredo Bautista, allegedly admitted to a police officer he used a cigarette lighter to start Wednesday’s Grizzly Fire after a road rage incident earlier in the morning.

A fire which broke out at the intersection of Grizzly Peak Boulevard and Fish Ranch Road in the Berkeley Hills yesterday is currently 50 percent contained, according to Oakland Fire Department Battalion Chief Melinda Drayton.

20-acre Berkeley Hills fire’s forward progress appears under control

About 200 firefighters from nine local fire departments, including Berkeley Fire Department, Oakland Fire Department and the Alameda County Fire Department, responded to a 20-acre fire in the Berkeley Hills that caused evacuations on a number of evacuations at campus properties.

Jacquelyn Smith, a former employee at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, filed a lawsuit against her ex-employer Thursday, alleging the lab discriminated against her for her disability.

Study reveals Bay Area methane emissions double previous estimations

A recent study published by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory researchers has revealed that local methane emissions predominantly originate from biological sources such as landfills, making Bay Area methane emissions approximately twice as high as originally estimated.
