For the second year in a row, campus student organization Blockeley has taken up the torch of helping UC Berkeley students experience a graduation ceremony through the video game Minecraft.

New UC Berkeley students moving into on-campus housing this fall faced more than just the average move-in day jitters, with social distancing precautions and virtual Golden Bear Orientation, or GBO, amid COVID-19 concerns.

Donning virtual caps and gowns, UC Berkeley students logged in to their computers Saturday to celebrate an unconventional graduation ceremony in the Minecraft server popularly known as “Blockeley University.”

Flying Kiwibots, a llama therapy booth on Lower Sproul and a display of the 2017 Milo Yiannopoulos protests are just some of the fixtures depicted in a virtual UC Berkeley campus students and alumni have been building in a Minecraft server popularly known as “Blockeley University.”
