Bird and Brown are the first alumni of Cal men’s basketball to become teammates since Jason Kidd and Lamond Murray were members of the 2005-06 New Jersey Nets.

Former Cal shooting guard Jabari Bird and the Celtics are currently working on a two-way contract, which would allow him to play for both the Celtics and the Maine Red Claws, the team’s G League affiliate. Boston has already signed fellow second-round draft pick Kadeem Allen to a two-way contract as well.

As a second-year player, Brown likely doesn’t immediately jump into Boston’s starting rotation when next season begins, but considering the current roster composition, the Bradley-trade puts Brown in the best position possible to start down the road.

After an ankle injury sustained in a pre-draft workout, former Bear Ivan Rabb is set to be re-evaluated and potentially make his debut for the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA’s Las Vegas Summer League.

Cal basketball alumni Jaylen Brown, Jabari Bird and Ivan Rabb will participate in the NBA Summer League this July, the former two playing for the Boston Celtics and the latter playing for the Memphis Grizzlies.

Over 78 games with the Boston Celtics, Brown averaged 6.6/2.8/0.8 (points, rebounds, assists) on .454/.341/.685 (field goal percentage, three-point percentage, free throw percentage) shooting.
