In an effort to provide existing women’s teams at Cal with facilities similar to those of their male counterparts, UC Berkeley will be constructing new and improved facilities for softball and beach volleyball — at the approximated cost of $30 million — according to a statement sent out by Chancellor Carol Christ on Monday afternoon.

reshman Mikayla Coelho led the Bears’ offensive attack in the regionals, batting .571 in seven at-bats to go along with four walks. Coelho’s success culminated in three RBI and three runs scored over the three games.

Cal softball is dancing into the postseason after being selected to play in the NCAA softball championship field. The Bears were awarded one of the 32 available at-large bids in the field of 64 programs that make up college softball’s best.

In what was a tough end to their eight-game winning streak, the Bears dropped all three games against top-ranked UCLA over the weekend. The Bruins outscored Cal, 17-6, over the course of the series and simply out-competed the Bears on both sides of the ball.
