UC Berkeley-led university alliance formed to increase STEM diversity in academia

The California Alliance holds its annual conference in October 2019 at Stanford. This current effort represents an expansion of the preexisting California Alliance.

A UC Berkeley-led research alliance aims to increase the number of postdoctoral scholars and faculty from historically underrepresented minority groups in STEM fields.

About 80 protesters gathered at a UC Board of Regents meeting Thursday to demand that the UC system divests from the Thirty Meter Telescope, or TMT, project on Mauna Kea — a mountain that is sacred to Native Hawaiians.
