Michael Delacour, co-founder of People’s Park, died Thursday at the age of 85. 

Today, a UC Berkeley work crew stripped the lettering off Moses Hall after UC President Michael Drake approved a proposal submitted by campus Chancellor Carol Christ in December to unname the building, according to a campus press release. The building, temporarily dubbed Philosophy Hall, awaits approval for the formal renaming. 

ASUC senators gave announcements on the various projects they are working on, some of which included adding a new mural on campus and adding additional safe and accessible infrastructure to campus. They also approved additional resolutions including mandating SVSH training for the senators.

People’s Park has been a point of controversy within the Berkeley community as campus seeks to build housing on the park, while activists work to preserve it. But currently, the park is “chaos,” according to Nicholas Alexander, a resource coordinator who helps run the kitchen in the park.

Logoed with the UC Berkeley crest and covered in a sunset view centered around the Campanile, the Berkeley subreddit has become the community’s go-to spot to ask questions and share opinions.

A UC Berkeley workgroup released a draft report detailing its recommendations on how departments should issue and attribute political statements, drawing criticism from the Berkeley Faculty Association as a “chilling of free speech.”

To be a Hispanic-serving institution, or HSI, at least 25% of a not-for-profit institution’s full-time undergraduates must be Hispanic. Today, 21 of the 23 CSU campuses and six of the nine UC campuses with undergraduate education are HSIs. UC Berkeley, currently, is not.

Since the formation of UC Berkeley’s division of Computing, Data Science and Society, or CDSS, students and faculty alike have urged for the establishment their own physical place on campus.

The eight rent-controlled units that once encompassed 1921 Walnut St. are now little more than a barren construction site.

The class of 2021 graduated in person. Surviving the most recent years strengthened the class and created a sense of connection and family between them.
