With a fall schedule nearly identical to that of a year ago, the Bears are headed into familiar territory and should know what to anticipate.

This weekend, rising Cal golf seniors Collin Morikawa and KK Limbhasut got the rare opportunity to compete against each other at the Arnold Palmer Cup at the Evian Resort Golf Club in Évian-les-Bains, France.

The accolades keep pouring in for Cal golf’s rising senior Collin Morikawa. This past week, Morikawa was named Golfweek Men’s Player of the Year, one of the biggest honors in collegiate game. In doing so, he became the second Cal player to ever receive the prestigious award, after Michael Kim did so in 2013.

But Morikawa, the current No. 1 player in the entire country, had bigger aspirations than simply soaking in the atmosphere of the weekend. True to his player profile, Morikawa would go in with the mindset of winning even if all odds were pitted against him — a silent assassin.

For the third straight tournament, the No. 10 Cal men’s golf team played well but ultimately had to settle for a second-place finish.

The No. 10 Cal men’s golf team will conclude its regular season at the Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz. This year’s competition at the Pasatiempo Golf Club provides the Bears with one final opportunity to iron out any hitches in their game before the start of postseason play.

Despite fighting gallantly and making a late push on Saturday to close the gap on No. 8 Oklahoma, Cal had to ultimately settle for second place.

On a national stage with some of the best teams in the country, the Bears displayed that they are a team to be reckoned with, come postseason time.

After a lackluster start to its spring campaign in Arizona, the No. 15 Cal men’s golf team once more reminded the rest of the country that something special is brewing in the Bay.

This weekend, Cal will travel down south to sunny Palm Springs to participate in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.
