Now the head of contemporary art at the SF Asian Art Museum, Chen remains passionate about serving this flourishing art scene.

“Defying the Narrative: Contemporary Art from West and Southern Africa,” which opened this past Saturday, showcases the widely varied works of 14 artists hailing from a range of African countries.

I felt guilty for seeing art as a form of escape into some higher, more elite plane of existence instead of just an extension of the life I was already living.
