‘Matters of life-or-death’: UC Berkeley works to close $340M budget deficit

Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, UC Berkeley is projected to have a budget deficit of $340 million. According to UC Berkeley Chancellor Carol Christ, the Campus Salary and Time Reduction Program, one of the recently announced budget reduction measures, is projected to save about $27 million and 250 jobs.

Faced with a projected $340 million budget deficit, UC Berkeley is primarily turning to its employment base for cost-saving measures.
