Student groups block Sather Gate in latest protest for relocation

More than 100 members and supporters of the Queer Alliance Resource Center, or QARC, and bridges Multicultural Resource Center blocked Sather Gate for several hours early Friday afternoon as part of their latest protest to be relocated to different club space on campus.

A protest on Monday at noon inside the Cal Student Store, organized by the Queer Alliance Resource Center, or QARC, and the bridges Multicultural Resource Center, took an unexpected turn when the store locked all of its entrances about 30 minutes into the protest.

On Wednesday, students from the Queer Alliance and Resource Center, or QARC, and bridges Multicultural Resource Center gathered at the office of the dean of students and demanded the organizations be relocated from their current locations in the Eshleman Hall basement.

Fourteen members and supporters of the Student Labor Committee participated in a sit-in outside the office of the campus director of intercollegiate athletics Thursday to protest the alleged termination of a contract worker.

“Students staged a sit-in and protest outside Dirks’ office Thursday afternoon, banging on desks with spoons and chanting pro-community benefits agreement slogans … Later Thursday afternoon, a group consisting of about 75 labor activists, Richmond residents and students marched from Sproul Plaza to the area in front of University House.”
