Thirty-three students from three separate facilities in the Division of Juvenile Justice, or DJJ, are enrolled to start an online Ethnic Studies curriculum, in collaboration with San Francisco State University, or SFSU, and Project Rebound.

In recent years, Critical Race Theory, or CRT, has become a point of contention across the U.S. as many states seek to ban teaching it in schools. The discussion surrounding CRT can vary depending on where it takes place, as many definitions exist.

A proposal that would make ethnic studies an A-G requirement for California schools has been formally on the table since October 2020. Now two years later, the discussion continues with a working group assigned to tackle implementation concerns in July.

To be a Hispanic-serving institution, or HSI, at least 25% of a not-for-profit institution’s full-time undergraduates must be Hispanic. Today, 21 of the 23 CSU campuses and six of the nine UC campuses with undergraduate education are HSIs. UC Berkeley, currently, is not.

The Journal of Right-Wing Studies launched on Friday to formalize right-wing studies, to provide a platform and support researchers in the field and to fill the gap in right-wing research.

They are not just housing ancient artifacts or dusty preservations of a lost civilization — they are a part of living, breathing and evolving cultures.

Students should be required to have an in-depth understanding of the history and heritage of the people who were on American land before colonization.

We live in a diverse society; it’s time for all school curriculums to reflect that.
