The area surrounding Spenger’s Fresh Fish Grotto Restaurant, a historic building in West Berkeley, may be expanded to include a beer garden and other new retail, according to development plans discussed at the city’s Design Review Committee meeting last week.

Teance is a serene oasis that shoppers on Fourth Street could duck into to seek shelter in from the hustle bustle outside and at the same time still feel connected with the outdoors through the abundance of sunlight, the water cascade that showers from the ceiling into a small pond with goldfish, the fresh flowers and even the bamboo coasters.

Taking in the variety of cuisines on Berkeley’s Fourth Street requires one to have a certain curiosity. It also depends on the time of day; the mood and feel of every restaurant on the upscale shopping avenue shifts between lunch and dinner. Zut! is no exception to this.
