Golden Gate Fields vaccination site no longer allowing volunteers due to liability issues

According to Jerry Hsu, Berkeley Medical Reserve Corps director, the COVID-19 vaccination site at Golden Gate Fields started administering vaccines Feb. 5. The site will no longer be using volunteers to help distribute the vaccines out of concern for medical malpractice and injury liabilities.

Volunteers scheduled to work at the Golden Gate Fields vaccination site were informed via an email March 11 that the site would no longer be utilizing volunteers due to liability fears surrounding the risk of medical malpractice and injury.

Lark Ryan, the race’s marketing and outreach coordinator, said the course depended on the permits they were able to settle with the city. She said that she hopes to cooperate with the city to get better permits and, consequently, a better course for possible future races.
