On Friday, a judge overruled a demurrer in the ongoing murder trial for a December double shooting that occurred in West Berkeley, which left one victim dead.

At a preliminary examination for the December murder of Kamahl Middleton in West Berkeley, a judge decided Monday that the three defendants in the case would proceed to trial as charged despite an attempt to drop the charges against one defendant.

A preliminary hearing for a December murder in West Berkeley wrapped up Tuesday with phone records, DNA test results and testimonies from one defendant’s close family and friends.

In December, 18-year-old Khalil Phanor, 20-year-old Carl Young and 19-year-old Gregory Foote allegedly murdered and robbed Middleton in a parking lot located on University and San Pablo avenues. According to 29-year-old Rebekah Cleberg, Middleton’s fiancee, the crime occurred after she and Middleton planned to trade Young a pound and a half of marijuana for $3,200.

Thursday marked the second day of a preliminary hearing for the December murder of 36-year-old Kamahl Middleton in West Berkeley and included testimony from police and further testimony from a surviving victim of the incident.

Carl Young, one of four suspects accused of murder and second-degree robbery in a December double shooting in Berkeley, appeared briefly in court Monday afternoon for court proceedings.

A 19-year-old man from Hayward was arraigned Tuesday in connection to a double shooting last December that killed one victim.

Police arrested two more suspects in connection with a December double shooting on San Pablo Avenue that resulted in one victim’s death, bringing the total number of arrested suspects to four.
