Edwards Stadium will be closing its west tunnel starting next week to undergo minor construction, amid safety concerns over the structure’s poor seismic rating and concrete falling from its ceiling.

Concrete chunks fall from the ceiling and pillars of the west tunnel of Edwards Stadium — home to the campus soccer and track and field teams — adding to the already unsafe conditions established with the building’s poor seismic rating.

A well-known member of Berkeley’s homeless community was ordered by campus police Sunday night to stay away from People’s Park for one week.
