Hearst Field Annex

UC Berkeley’s Disabled Students' Program will be moving to the Dwinelle Hall Annex as the program finds the need to accommodate its growth. 

Is Finland a country? Like a real country? According to campus senior Mehak Kaur at Gamma Rho Lambda, a UC Berkeley sorority for queer students, these are the types of questions that are posed, debated and answered by its members.  

UC Berkeley student advocates Katie Savin and Alena Morales recently reflected on their work and progress toward making campus accessible and welcoming for students with disabilities.

Underrepresented student groups and organizations, including the community of students with disabilities and Indigenous student organizations, have faced long-standing challenges in their fight for allocated spaces on campus. 

After years of student advocacy, UC Berkeley allocated a space for a disability cultural center June 18. The disability cultural center will be in the Hearst Field Annex and will provide a myriad services such as serving as a central hub for disabled students, faculty, staff and local community members.

For almost a year, UCPD and members of the Fannie Lou Hamer Black Resource Center have been discussing the UCPD patrol car parking area on Barrow Lane.

Student groups representing marginalized communities discussed the different initiatives and services they offer to students as well as the issues they face during Wednesday night’s weekly ASUC Senate meeting.

On May 4, the bridges Multicultural Resource Center and the Queer Alliance Resource Center, or QARC, signed three memorandums of understanding, or MOUs, with campus and student body officials to solidify the next step in obtaining visible and accessible spaces for the organizations.

The three MOUs detail bridges and QARC’s requests in wait of their new space, Hearst Field Annex building spaces A and D.

It has taken more than two years of organizing rallies, marches and demonstrations for the Black Student Union, or BSU, to obtain a five-year contract for the Hearst Field Annex space with a $30,000 annual stipend to pay for its programs.
