I owe any trace of a relatively stable mental health to the beaten paths of Strawberry Creek and the Fire Trails, and I hope these photos capture my gratitude for all that nature offers so bountifully.

With school out of session, many college students are looking for enriching things to fill their free time. So, I’ve decided to make a hobby guide with some suggestions of fun activities to try out this summer. 

Spending time in nature has had a powerful healing effect on my mental and physical health. It provides an opportunity to disconnect from technology, gain perspective on our lives and connect with the world around us.

With midterm season reaching a stopping point, many Berkeley students will have some extra time to explore new areas as the season starts changing. After a few months in Berkeley, the area can start to become very closed in, so planning a weekend trip with your friends is a great way to try something new and relieve stress.

Hiking is all fun and games, frolicking in fields and wandering in the woods, until the lights go out. By the glow of the moon, a joyous jaunt can transform into a hair-raising, terror-stricken tumble into your worst nightmare

Located just 90 miles north of Los Angeles is Santa Barbara, a beautiful beach town with plenty of activities and adventures. The weather stays in the 70s pretty much all year round and is a perfect place for a getaway.

Despite their relatively industrial setting and proximity to Chicago, the dunes have a level of biodiversity that rivals even the state of Hawaii. Any bird watcher, hiker, swimmer or general nature lover should put this park on their to-see list!

Taking advice from those who have lived in or been to Oahu, we compiled our recommendations and headed off for an action-packed week in Hawaii.
