The downfall for the Bears was 3-point shooting, as when Anigwe was taken out of the equation by the Cardinal defense, Cal relied heavily on the deep shot. The Bears, however, made only one (yes, one) of their 13 attempts behind the arc in the second half.

With less than 30 seconds left, seniors Anigwe and Thomas checked out for their final times in Haas Pavilion, each to standing ovations from the crowd.

After another 0-2 weekend, the Bears now sit at 5-9 in conference play and have dropped to ninth place in the Pac-12. While they’ve remained competitive against the top tier of the conference, their only win against the top six teams was on a buzzer-beater versus Stanford.

Cal closed out the toughest stretch of the season, playing four top-10 matchups and managing to steal one game. Even though the weekend ended with two losses, the Bears gained a lot of learning experience by going head to head with the top teams in the nation.

Playing at home is always an advantage, but the Cal faithful were in sync with the Bears all game long, providing crucial energy on a late Thursday night. Everyone got extra motivation for Friday as Thomas called game.

Cal women’s basketball bounced back from its losing streak with a 77-63 win over Washington State after a road trip to the desert that the Bears would want to leave behind as fast as possible.

The Bears lost yet another close game after leading by two with one minute and 26 seconds left, and in the end Arizona State got the tip over by just one point.

The Cal faithful might not be able to see their team ranked in the top 25 next week for the first time this season, depending on how the Bears respond against USC.

Cal shot above 50 percent from the field in the second half, while holding CSUN to 21 percent as the Bears improved their already impressive second-half performances early in the season. The goal would be expanding this performance to the full 40 minutes, as Cal is eyeing to cement its place as one of the elite teams in the country.
