A former manager of Echo Lake Camp, operated by the city of Berkeley, filed a lawsuit against the city’s Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department, alleging that city officials failed to investigate or address exposure to asbestos in camp cabins.

Two San Francisco-based lawyers have filed an appeal asking the U.S. Department of Education to revisit a previously-dismissed complaint that alleged UC Berkeley administrators failed to respond to a hostile environment towards Jewish students on campus.

On Tuesday the federal government dismissed a complaint that UC Berkeley administrators did not do enough to curb “an environment hostile to Jewish students” as a result of student demonstrations against Israeli policies.

On May 18 2012, 22 year old Milanca Lopez and her son Xavier Chevez died from a car collision in which her boyfriend, UC Berkeley alumnus Jose Lumbreras, was the driver. The lawsuit seeks financial compensation from Lumbreras and the UC Regents

Federal officials are investigating a complaint filed against UC Berkeley alleging that protests staged on campus have created an anti-Semitic environment.

UC Berkeley alumni Jessica Felber and Brian Maissy dismissed their lawsuit accusing the campus and UC of failure to mitigate a hostile climate against Jewish students, the campus announced Wednesday.
