For the fourth straight year, the No. 2 Cal men’s swim and dive team finished as the runner-up at the NCAA Championships, just behind Texas, which claimed its fourth consecutive national title Saturday.

Facing off against four other ranked squads, the Bears showed off their deep roster, sweeping all five relays and qualifying four swimmers for NCAA championships as part of a 1,014-point performance.

Both relay races went to the home squad, with Carr, Hoppe, Quah and Lynch combining to take the 200 medley relay. Sophomore Pawel Sendyk, Jensen, Hoffer and Josa all swam legs under 20 seconds to help the Bears win the 200 free relay.

Cal men’s swim was sent on separate journeys last weekend — one over the hills to Stockton and the other up the mountains to Salt Lake City. Both groups returned with strong victories. The Bears (2-0) defeated Pacific on Friday and Pac-12 foe Utah on Saturday, 158.5-100.5 and 188.5-111.5, respectively.
