‘An artificial crisis’: City Council to vote on sanctuary waiver for Motorola

Berkeley City Council approved a contract with with Motorola Solutions, which may violate the city's Sanctuary City Contracting Ordinance. The ordinances prohibits the city from doing business with entities that work with the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, with exemptions.

On Sept. 28th, City Council approved a $6.5 million contract with Motorola Solutions despite concerns that the deal violated the Sanctuary Ordinance.

Gov. Gavin Newsom passes SB 9, ending single-family zoning in CA

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed several housing-focused bills Sept. 16, one of which effectively ends single-family zoning in the state. SB 9, the bill in question, allows duplexes to be built in single-family zones and gives homeowners the ability to subdivide existing lots into residential areas, according to the bill.
