Berkeley City Council began its meeting Tuesday with a recognition of outgoing City Councilmember Lori Droste. Representing District 8, Droste announced in May that she would not be pursuing a third term.

Incumbent Rashi Kesarwani has been declared victorious for Berkeley City Council District 1 with 50.03% of the votes as of 1:19 a.m. Saturday with 100% of the precincts accounted for.

Mark Humbert is in the lead for Berkeley City Council District 8 with 64.05% of the votes as of 5 p.m. Wednesday with 100% of the precincts accounted for.

Midterm elections might not determine the next president of the United States, but the upcoming elections still have a lot at stake for voters everywhere.

Sometimes, however, the notification from the little blue bird can signal something uplifting or even funny, instead of the typical doom and gloom we have come to expect in politics. The Berkeley City Council members’ Twitter accounts are no exception.

The state of California is pushing back on Berkeley City Council’s attempts to limit construction of accessory dwelling units, or ADUs, in the Berkeley Hills, arguing that the council’s actions violate state law.

Wendy Saenz Hood, a former landlord and current tenant in Berkeley, is running to be a commissioner on the city’s Rent Stabilization Board. 

Peter Bruce DuMont is running to fill the District 8 City Council seat that councilmember Lori Droste plans to vacate this election cycle.

Jay Wu, a financial services agent, is running for the city of Berkeley’s District 8 City Council seat.

Mark Humbert, a federal employee benefits attorney and 20-year Berkeley resident, is running for the Berkeley District 8 City Council seat.
