‘Do that yesterday’: Berkeley City Council to drop build height limits

As part of the city’s goal to work toward its Housing Element, the Berkeley City Council met to discuss the future of the city’s housing policies, with many at the meeting urging affordability.

Berkeley City Council members agreed to build affordable housing, remove construction height limits and address exclusionary zoning.

Berkeley City Council allows larger home additions, garage conversions

Berkeley City Council adopted an ordinance to include garage conversions under the definition of accessory dwelling units, or ADUs, and increased the allowable ADU maximum height to 20 feet in all districts excluding areas at high fire risk at their regular meeting Tuesday.
