Berkeley gives city manager power to issue rules for unpermitted protests

After a heated public comment session, Berkeley City Council passed a contentious urgency ordinance at its special meeting Friday that will allow the city manager to issue temporary regulations regarding weapons or hazardous items at unpermitted street events.

City of Berkeley: ‘Stay away’ from upcoming alt-right rally, counter-protest

The City of Berkeley is now advising community members to “stay away” from an alt-right “No to Marxism in America” rally scheduled in Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park on Aug. 27 and to not “create alternative events near downtown Berkeley.”

Berkeley Police Department issued a Nixle alert Monday with a list of 20 individuals who were arrested in connection with violence that erupted at the Free Speech Rally on Saturday at the Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park.

Free Speech Rally featuring controversial alt-right speakers scheduled for Saturday

The rally is organized by Rich Black, who was also behind the “March 4 Trump” rally that took place last month and erupted in violence, resulting in seven people being evaluated for injuries and at least 10 arrests.
