Le Bateau Ivre, a French Berkeley restaurant, welcomed an unusual sight on Mother's Day as families occupied its space — a stark contrast to last year.

Feelmore Adult, an adult entertainment store and sex shop, opened a Berkeley location Jan. 2 on Shattuck Avenue. The Berkeley location is smaller compared to its other location in Oakland, according to store owner Nenna Joiner.

Sunday Streets is a part of the international Open Streets Project, which aims to shut down high-traffic areas for the enjoyment of the public. Berkeley’s street festivities included a family Bastille Day celebration, the second annual Downtown Berkeley Pet Parade, and Cornerfest, an outdoor music concert hosted by Cornerstone Craft Beer & Live Music.

The beats of Brazilian street drummers filled the air, providing a rhythm for the hundreds of feet marching along some of Berkeley’s most iconic streets. While not necessarily crowded, the blocked-off areas were populated by laughing children playing cornhole or blowing bubbles, local election campaigners hoping to gain votes and people of all ages painting animal figurines.

Berkeley’s third Chipotle location will open at 2225 Shattuck Ave. on Dec. 7, according to Chipotle spokesperson Chris Arnold.
