Wednesday’s regular ASUC Senate meeting focused on the relationship between city politics and campus students, and senators took action on bills related to endorsements and the campus political climate.

Wednesday’s new resolutions marked a total of seven bills in the past three weeks focused on student safety and wellness. They included a bill that would create a commission on mental health and another to increase protection related to on-campus political demonstrations.

At the ASUC Senate's regular meeting Wednesday, UC Berkeley administrators addressed developments in the campus’s approach to sexual violence and harassment cases, and the senate took steps toward the creation of an ASUC Intimate Partner Violence Commission.

At their fourth meeting of the semester Wednesday night, the ASUC Senate passed all four bills put to vote after heavy deliberations on a bill concerning a controversial DeCal that was suspended, and then reinstated, in the past week.

The ASUC Senate held its first ever inter-semester committee meeting Thursday to discuss the permanent appointment of a chief legal officer and to debate whether to support a potential study by the city of Berkeley on the effects of banning single-use water bottles.

ASUC executive and senate hopefuls, accompanied by hundreds of supporters, flooded the Arthur Andersen Auditorium in the Haas School of Business on Friday evening to learn the results of the 2016-17 ASUC elections.

In a reversal from last year’s results, Student Action swept all four partisan executive positions in the 2016 ASUC elections, announced at Friday’s tabulation ceremony.

The high-stakes election season — where the difference between winning and losing an election can come down to a handful of voters — sees a host of different campaigning tactics, from rigorous “Sprouling” schedules to sending hundreds of rounds of Facebook messages to secure as many votes as possible.

On Tuesday evening, Student Action — a party traditionally known to represent the Greek, engineering and Jewish communities — announced 16 senate candidates for the upcoming ASUC elections.
