A person not affiliated with UC Berkeley suffered a mental health episode and broke a window in Moffitt Library Apr 26, according to UCPD Lt. Nicolas Hernandez. 

On Nov. 4, a man was found unresponsive in a tent at what UCPD Lt. Nicolas Hernandez called the “UC Construction Site” on the 2500 block of Haste.

The 2020-21 ASUC Senate has fully begun its functions, passing resolutions as well as discussing student life and campus policing at its meeting Wednesday.

The Independent Advisory Board on Police Accountability and Community Safety released its report on the UCPD on June 30, recommending more than 25 changes that aim to create a safer campus environment and increase police accountability.

Under AB 392, force must only be used when “necessary” rather than when “reasonable.” The bill, signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom on Aug. 19, specifies that officers must use other resources and techniques to address threats instead of deadly force.

The fire had burned out on its own by the time the Berkeley Fire Department arrived, according to a UCPD spokesperson, and no UC property was damaged.

According to the UCPD crime log for Wednesday, a man was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on the second floor of the Haas Business School and was taken to Santa Rita Jail.
