Occupy the Farm protesters broke into UC-owned research land in Albany again Sunday to tend to the crops they planted on the Gill Tract earlier this spring.

Occupy the Farm protesters have cut the lock of the gate on three occasions — most recently on Sunday — since the encampment was broken up by police on May 14 in order to tend crops they had planted during their occupation of the tract.

Twelve weeks after Occupy the Farm embarked on an arduous pursuit of local farming, the shine of the once promising movement has withered away like the leaves of a weary crop. We are in favor of the council’s decision and frustrated by the uncooperative approach of the protesters.

The Albany City Council approved a plan for development on UC-owned land in the city despite opposition from city residents and local activists.

ALBANY, Calif. — Members of Occupy the Farm broke into UC-owned research land in Albany Saturday morning in order to weed and harvest crops they planted during their three-week occupation of the land that ended in May.

The Albany City Council will convene Monday to address upcoming commercial developments that may take place on UC-owned land in the city.

The defendants named in the recently-dropped lawsuit filed by the UC Board of Regents against Occupy the Farm intended to file an anti-SLAPP motion against the university in response.
