While my fellow classmates had older siblings who prepared them for the harsh realities of secondary school, I learned the ins and outs of the world through the stories my beloved books held.

One perk of going to one of the most popular schools in the country is the amount of references it has in film and other media. With the countless fictional characters talking about their time at UC Berkeley, it’s only obvious that we pay tribute to them in quiz form. As a UC Berkeley student, it’s absolutely mandatory to find out which fellow fictional student you connect with the most!

By treating reading the same as any form of self-care, I will hopefully begin to enjoy reading for pleasure again and all the magic that comes with it.

It’s hard to convince others of the practicality of prison abolition because carceral logic, or approaching the creation of a just and functioning society through punitive structures, is so embedded in how we view the world.

Out of all the books that contributed to the declining health of my eyes, there was one that always stood out to me — Louisa May Alcott’s “Little Women.”
