Campus researchers sequence coronavirus genome, find several strains

The Innovative Genomics Institute is a campus organization run by senior genomics scientist Stacia Wyman and bioengineering assistant professor Liana Lareau. The institution was promptly established in March 2020 toward the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases and the detection of new variants of the virus on campus, the Innovative Genomics Institute, or IGI, at UC Berkeley aims to sequence viral genomes to improve student safety.
