88rising makes hip-hop its own at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium

On Oct. 31, music from hip-hop heavyweights like Drake and Run The Jewels was relegated to background music for 88rising’s final stop on the “88 Degrees and Rising” tour. Focused on but not limited to representing Asian and Asian American artists, the part-media company, part-record label set out on tour in September.

Rolling Loud 2018: Towkio

On his most recent album, WWW., Japanese-Mexican rapper Towkio jumped back and forth among different genres: soul-infused hip-hop to pop, R&B to trap. Given the blend of genres the rapper so fearlessly explored, it was disappointing to hear the rapper relegate his setlist to a series of repetitive, trap-inspired songs.
