Berkeley’s planning commission met Wednesday for an update and community discussion about the proposed redistricting of Southside and updating development standards. 

The AC Transit Board of Directors unanimously approved a motion to extend line 7 in order to add service to Ashby Avenue. Ashby Avenue was once covered by line 80, which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and low ridership. 

Councilmember Rigel Robinson has introduced an Intersection Daylighting Plan, which would paint intersections red to restrict parking in order to open up space, increase visibility and reduce traffic injuries and deaths.

Telegraph Ave., a street spanning Sather Gate to Oakland, has had an increase in safety issues due to its poor pavement conditions.

During their Tuesday meeting, Berkeley City Council began by adjourning their meeting in honor of Patricia DeVito, Beatrice Barrigher and David Lance Goines. All had been long-standing and influential members of the community who had passed away within the last six months.

Last Thursday through Saturday, a string of separate and allegedly intentional “dooring” incidents leading up to and after Friday’s East Bay Bike Party, or EBBP, injured several bicyclists in Berkeley, Oakland and Emeryville, according to a EEBP press release. 

Berkeley City Council voted unanimously to pass the 2023-2031 Housing Element in an explosive special meeting Wednesday, virtually attended by over 150 Berkeley residents.
