Like a social pariah among victors with seemingly endless opportunities, I tactfully observed a living system of privilege and oppression that causes present and generational pain. I refused to submit to this feeling as I forged a new way forward.

We have a criminal-legal system that continues to prioritize incarceration over care in the community for those struggling with mental illness, drug addiction and homelessness. 

Should the Berkeley City Council resolution pass, housing under new ordinances should be developed with an eye toward those harmed by discriminatory policy.

Now is the time to fight to make protections real in our workplace and move on to the next stages in the struggle to create a “UC for All.”
