The Lawrence Hall of Science introduced an extension — the Robert and Elizabeth Karplus Outdoor Nature Lab, the first major expansion in over 20 years.

The Lawrence Hall of Science and Science at Cal organized online resources to help keep families engaged in science from home and keep the public educated about COVID-19, or the new coronavirus.

According to Rena Dorph, the Lawrence Hall of Science's interim director, the hall emphasizes studying how people from diverse communities learn about science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The National Science Foundation granted the Science and Technology Center on Real-Time Functional Imaging, or STROBE, $24 million over a five year period. Researchers said that the cooperative efforts of experts in different fields, along with the diversity of resources and technologies accessible to participating institutions will enable more productive research.

Members of the public gathered in the rain Wednesday to celebrate the return of a whale statue to the Lawrence Hall of Science after the sculpture was removed in order to undergo a structural makeover.
