UC regents to vote on code of conduct amendment, Carol Christ appointment

The UC Board of Regents will convene Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at UCSF Mission Bay to vote on an amendment to the systemwide faculty code of conduct, vote on Carol Christ’s appointment as UC Berkeley’s new chancellor and discuss UC investments and undergraduate cost of attendance.

Kate Harrison wins District 4 Berkeley City Council seat

Early results from the Alameda County Registrar of Voters indicate that Kate Harrison is leading the Berkeley City Council special election with about 64 percent of the vote, suggesting that she will likely win the District 4 council seat.

Ben Gould — a graduate student running for Berkeley City Council’s District 4 seat — announced Monday that he has secured the endorsement of every executive member of UC Berkeley’s ASUC and graduate assembly, excluding that of Selina Lao, who holds the nonpartisan position of ASUC student advocate.

According to a recent Bay Area News Group analysis of 2015 crime statistics, UC Berkeley issued campuswide alerts for less than 30 percent of reported sexual offenses that occurred on or near campus in 2015.

Following widespread criticism of the university’s handling of sexual misconduct allegations, members of the Chancellor’s Senate/Administration Committee on Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment hosted a listening session with students Friday to address campuswide concerns regarding policies and sanctions on sexual violence.

Interim lead of the campus’s response to sexual violence Carla Hesse said she anticipates the number of sexual misconduct complaints to the campus Title IX office to jump from 196 in the 2014-15 academic year to more than 300 this year.
