The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office has not transferred any people to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody in 2021, according to a spokesperson from the office, but the sheriff is continuing to collaborate with the immigration agency in certain cases.

Both UC Berkeley and the city of Berkeley have announced initiatives to reduce and, to some extent, eliminate all single-use plastics by 2030.

Kevin de León, president pro tem of the California State Senate and a candidate for the U.S. Senate elections, spoke to more than 600 UC Berkeley students in Wheeler Hall during Professor Alan Ross’s "Colloquium in Political Science" class, or Political Science 179, on Tuesday.

The Department of Justice, or DOJ, threatened Wednesday to issue a subpoena to the city of Berkeley if the city does not hand over documents showing whether or not local law enforcement is sharing information with federal immigration authorities.

If signed by Gov. Jerry Brown, SB 54 will prevent state and local authorities from aiding the federal government in enforcing immigration policies.

A state bill that would prohibit state law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement was approved Monday to reach the California State Senate.
