UC, US Senate officially recognize Juneteenth

For the first time, both the UC system and the U.S. Senate acknowledged Juneteenth, which commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, as an official holiday.
Joining the city of Berkeley, the U.S. Senate and the UC system officially observed Juneteenth as a holiday for the first time.
