Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

“Across the Spider-Verse” easily emerges as an early contender for the best film of the year, and it will no doubt leave a similarly lasting mark across the globe as did its predecessor.

The qualities of a stoner-approved flick are varied, but we’ve narrowed the rubric to include three main camps: the mind-bending, the absurd or the outright, unintentionally hilarious.

The general narrative among diehards is that Sony needs to “put story over money” — a hypothetical restructuring of priorities that essentially requires Sony to hand over its highest-earning property to Disney, no matter the cost or ramifications.

With “Spider-Man: Far From Home” hitting theaters, it’s only appropriate to look back at the web-slinger’s storied on-screen history and separate the worst from the best.

While it may be more forgettable in this history of animated films, “The Secret Life of Pets 2” serves its purpose as an entertaining family movie for kids and pets alike.   

Though the show featured some pleasantly surprising wins and an impressive number of awards given to artists of color, the moments we could champion were quickly snuffed out by those that disappointed.

This awards season has truly been a wild ride; fingers crossed that optimism will prevail and the Oscars will emerge from this critical inferno having made some good choices.

I want a film or TV show rich in characters that look like me, that look like Data and Lucas, so that I’ll have no choice but to understand that people like me deserve the chance to experience the incredible.

This allegory is particularly prescient in today’s climate, since Brazil just elected a far-right president who ran on a campaign of divisiveness. In light of these developments, “Tito and the Birds” comes off as a topical commentary, a fantastical refraction of the forces manifesting fear in real time.
