UC Berkeley is establishing a new research center called the Berkeley Economy and Society Initiative, or BESI, according to a press release from the campus Social Science Matrix.

UC Berkeley community members met in Sibley Auditorium on Tuesday afternoon in continuation of the April 15 Signature Initiatives town hall meeting, where the audience further directed questions and feedback to three of six remaining initiative teams — equality, health and democracy.

On Oct. 21, the UC Office of the President, or UCOP, announced it was the first U.S. pension plan and endowment fund to sign the Japan Stewardship Code to foster economic growth through greater involvement on the part of investors.
